You don't have to be stressed about your hair looking pressed, we've got you girl!
Wanting perfect ringlets and soft waves is one thing, but navigating the endless struggles of detangling and defining unruly curls is another. One that most women struggle with daily - including us. But you're in luck today, because at Louvelle we've compiled all the best tips and tricks that will have you looking voluminous and defined in no time! (If you haven't already read our journal post on the Curly Girl Method, it talks about the best ways to transition damaged hair back to life.)
While Washing
Following the Curly Girl Method, shampoos are a no. However, living in Australia and having your locks exposed to many heat, oils and sea salt - not to mention major product build up on your scalp - can leave your hair feeling super weighed down. We don't need that! So we suggest ensuring that your shampoo contains no silicone or sulphates, Hydration Shampoo by Pattern Beauty is our top pick. This is hydration in a bottle, that wafts a divine floral scent. Keep your shampoo focused on your scalp, otherwise it may dry out your ends. Make sure to massage and deep clean gently in circular motions. Rinse when complete.

On to conditioning! This step is so imperative because curly hair is generally more dry than straight hair. You will need to gently comb through a deep conditioner or mask through the ends and the middle of your hair. Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Shea Curl Defining Conditioner is the way to go. It encourages curl definition and kisses frizz goodbye.

You will need to leave this in your hair for five to eight minutes. We recommend using our DAHLIA Shower Cap to incubate your hair during this period. It's perfect for protection against humidity and frizz. Not to mention comes in many different fancy patterns, to suit any curl defining occasion (Or any occasion, if you ask us).
Once the time period is up, rinse your hair upside down while scrunching in an upward motion to promote the curls. (Nobody said having beautiful hair was easy *shrugs).

Defining Moments
Here is the part you've all been waiting for... Let your wet hair sit for a moment. Take the time to attend to other self-care routines and relax. Then while your hair is still damp, brush out and detangle with a wide tooth comb. This comb will minimise breakage because your hair is more susceptible to snapping when wet. Also set in a curly creme or leave in conditioner to re-introduce the moisture. After the product is evenly distributed take the holy grail, also known as the Denman Brush. Work through small sections in an upward motion, while curling the ends. This brush will help to define and clump curls. For a detailed demonstration on how to use this brush correctly- watch Jayme Jo's video
Scrunch into your hair a mousse or curl defining gel. We love the John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse or John Frieda Frizz Ease Clearly Defined Gel or both. These products will hold all the curls and keep them in place without leaving your hair feeling weighed down or sticky.

Plopping
If you haven't heard of plopping, girl today we are teaching you today. This one step changes the game. Instead of the alternative and super damaging act of twisting a towel on your head - plopping gently encapsulates your hair while keeping your curls intact and away from frizz. Traditionally, plopping is completed with a t-shirt but using our microfibre RIVA Towel Wrap, it will cut in half drying time without compromising curl defining quality. To learn how to properly plop and use the turban style towel visit How to Wear.
